What is signature advertising?

Signatures are commonly found on forums and blogs.  Where online chat discussion allows the poster or replier of a topic discussion to add a personal brief subject,comment, or topic section to all their postings and replies.  Signature advertising is when the poster or replier uses it to advertise, such as a url link to a website.
