How To Write a Book by Turning Key Points Into Questions
There’s no doubt about it, writing a book can feel overwhelming. In fact, many authors begin with tremendous enthusiasm only to get about halfway through their book before they run out of steam or find themselves deep in a hole of disorganization. Don’t let this happen to you. Make each and every page of your book organized and easy to write starting with day one and ending as you gracefully write your conclusion. Here’s how: Turn each key point of your book into a question. This strategy assumes that you have taken the time to outline your book. If you haven’t outlined your book, go back and come up with 15-20 chapter titles, depending on how long you want your book to be. Under each chapter title, create key points that you need to cover in each chapter. We recommend around 10 key points per chapter that way the chapter has enough substance to make it worth while not too many that the chapter feels overwhelming. If you have a chapter that has more than 10 key points then consider breaking it into two chapters and conversely if you have a chapter with only a few key points consider either adding more relevant points or combining it with another chapter. Okay, so let’s take a look at how to turn your key points into questions: Using a book example about dogs and dog training here’s what your outline might look like: Chapter One Bringing Your Dog Home Here’s what your questions might look like: By now you might be asking, “Why change the statements into questions?” The answer is that it is much easier to answer a question than it is to defend or explain a statement. Changing your key points into questions means that you don’t have to dwell over how to organize your thoughts - really. When you answer a question your thoughts tend to organize themselves. Additionally, it’ll take you half the time to answer a question than it will for you to write a page on your statement. Truly, give it a try. Give each question 5-7 minutes, no longer. If you give yourself too long to answer a question, you’ll have the tendency to fill the time second guessing yourself. After five minutes, move onto the next question and repeat the process. You’ll find that each chapter flows quite effortlessly onto the page and your entire book will be done in no time flat.
